Lee & Tioga — North Philadelphia

That papi shop on the corner's been there longer than anyone can remember.

New owners every few years. Sign never changes.

The lights in the basement always flickered different than the rest of the store.

Always have.

2009.

New delivery came in. Boxes nobody ordered. No return address.

He stacked them in the basement. Didn't ask questions.

Three days later his nephew went down for cases of water.

Didn't come back up.

That was fifteen years ago.

Papi padlocked the door. Something's been pushing from the other side ever since.

Now they're everywhere.

He's still open. Cash only.

Every basement door in the city leads somewhere now.

Every staircase down.

Every shadow that moves when nothing's there.

Philadelphia has fallen.
